Galaxy Tower, Utrecht

Project: Galaxy Tower
Location: Utrecht, The Netherlands

An area transformation is taking place at more than 35 locations. The goal is to make this location a mixed neighbourhood where people can live, work and relax. With parks and lots of green spaces. Galaxy Tower is one of the first developments there and will be a mix of a hotel and residential building. We were asked to provide a sustainable and fully integrated solution to provide renewable energy.

Our PowerGlaz is designed to integrate seamlessly into a façade design, renewably generate and positively affect design aesthetic. The total installed capacity per facade is:

South-West: 17,635 Wp, distributed over 152 active PowerGlaz solar panels. The expected annual yield is about 10,500 kWh under ideal conditions.

South: 21,260 Wp, distributed over 164 active PowerGlaz solar panels. The expected annual yield is approx. 13,600 kWh under ideal conditions.

South-East: 17,385 Wp, distributed over 160 active PowerGlaz solar panels. The expected annual yield is approx. 10,300 kWh under ideal conditions.

East: 33,155 Wp, distributed over 318 active PowerGlaz solar panels. The expected annual yield is approx. 14,900 kWh under ideal conditions.

West: 64,375 Wp, distributed over 514 active PowerGlaz solar panels. The expected annual yield is approx. 29,000 kWh under ideal conditions.

By incorporating solar energy not only in or on the roof, but also in the facade, the entire building envelope is used to generate energy. Especially for high-rise buildings a fantastic sustainable solution! Thanks to the solar panels integrated in the facade, the energy consumption of the tower will be spectacularly low. Naturally, the building meets the new sustainability requirements of the municipality of Utrecht for the new ‘Healthy Urban Quarter’.
