Victory Boogie Woogie Tunnel (Rotterdamse Baan), The Netherlands

Project: Victory Boogie Woogie Tunnel (Rotterdamse Baan)
Location: The Hague, The Netherlands

The Victory Boogie Woogie Tunnel is a new tunnel connecting the centre of The Hague with the Ypenburg interchange. The tunnel is part of the Rotterdamsebaan and is 1,860 meters long. We were asked to help develop a sustainable tunnel utilising or PowerGlas solar panels.

In the design of the tunnel, we took into account the economical use of energy by the implementation of Powerglas solar panels that is expected to annual yield approximately 94,000 kWh under ideal circumstances. We installed the total capacity of 107,730 Wp, distributed over 450 active PowerGlaz solar panels.

During this project we also drew up a string plan, installed an inverter, cabling and commissioned a PV system.

The Victory Boogie Woogie tunnel is now one of the most sustainable tunnels in Europe. The new route has advantages especially for traffic to and from Rotterdam, Delft and Ypenburg. Traffic to and from the freeways can also be better distributed. This reduces congestion on the Utrechtsebaan and guarantees less delays during rush hours.
